5G Development tool for baseband researchers and telecom carriers

5G protocol developers can verify the beam tracking algorithm and protocols by connecting BBox™ and UD Box to the baseband instrument such as NI USRP.

With TMYTEK's beamtracking solution, telecom carriers now can do Far Field Assessment Simulation for 5G mobile base station without spending huge amounts of budget.

FAQ

Does UD Box have internal local or external reference clock?
Our UD Box have internal reference clock. It is able to provide reference to our internal local oscillator which have adjustable frequency. We can also provide this 10 MHz reference clock output for synchronizing external instruments with our UD Box.
What is the purpose of UD Box software?
We have GUI and API available for developers to control the LO frequencies of the UD Box as well as channel and reference ON/OFF functions. Our GUI is called the TMXLAB Kit which integrates most of our products into a single user interface. On the other hand, API is made ready to help production line automation and research environment for more extensive controls.
What is the difference between single and dual UD Box?
Our UD Box have single channel and dual channel versions. The advantage and exclusive features are that you can use two single channel UD Boxes to do the non-coherent modulation and demodulation. One as transmitter (Tx) and one as receiver (Rx) for long distance propagation measurement. Dual channel can be used when you have compact space requirement or you don’t have distance requirement, such as using it in an anechoic chamber.
Is UD Box tied to specific instruments? If so, what are the list of instruments it is compatible with?
No, UD Box is not tied to any brand/instruments. It is compatible with almost all types of signal generators and analyzers available on the market. Please consult us if you would like to make sure if UD Box is compatible with your current application scenario and existing instrument.
Can UD Box convert IQ baseband signal to mmWave? Is it bi-directional?
UD Box doesn’t have ADC/DAC. It converts IF and RF signal in a bi-directional way. We currently don’t have IQ product but it is customizable.
Which frequency bands does UD Box cover for 5G communications (i.e. n257, n260…)?
UD Box RF frequency ranges from 24 to 44 GHz which covers all of the 5G RF2 frequency bands from n257 to n261.
I didn’t see any filter at the RF port for image rejection in the datasheet schematic. Is image from the IF conversion rejected by filter in the UD Box?
UD Box is a broadband device so the image rejection filter is not built-in. We have optional filters that you can choose to filter the unwanted signals or we can design customized filter to fulfill the band you are interested in.
Can I use your amplifier together with UD Box via cable connection?
UD Box is a passive module. You can choose to add our optional amplifier to work with the UD Box.
What is the instantaneous bandwidth (IBW) of UD Box?
Our UD Box IF is from 0.01 to 14 GHz. The instantaneous bandwidth depends on the testing equipment and the testing signal type and conditions. For reference, in 5G communication testing, we have tested using 5G NR FR1 protocol 64 QAM on LitePoint’s IQxtream-5G. The instantaneous bandwidth still maintaining a good EVM (3%) is around 100 MHz. On the other hand, we have also tested 4K video streaming using NI’s MTS system. A bandwidth of 800 MHz is used while maintaining a throughput of over 2.8 Gbps and a EVM of 3%.
Can UD Box work with Vector Network Analyzers for S21 measurements?
Yes, our UD Box along with our VNA Cal-Kit can upgrade lower class/frequency VNA to high frequencies for S21 measurements.
