This document looks at the technical mitigation strategies to improve the performance of 5G mmWave networks in both indoor or outdoor scenarios. Phased array antennas are used to compensate for path loss and enable beamforming and MIMO systems to meet application requirements. TMYTEK AiP system provides a total solution for 5G O-RAN RU, including antenna beamformers, frequency up/down converters, and Low-PHY integration.

For indoor deployments, there is an alternative low-cost solution – the Electromagnetic Surface (ES). Reflectors are at an angle to redirect the signal to a specific location, increasing the signal strength, a design antenna pattern is used as an enhancement “lens” to refocus the signal to a certain direction, a diffraction surface can be applied onto the pillars to guide the signal around the pillar block to continue transmitting.
